Tourists taking cover from the rain at Sigirya UNESCO site in Srilanka - SriLanka faced a civil war between 1983 and 2009: the 26-year military campaign ended with the defeat of the Tamil Tigers by the Sri Lankan military. On the 26th of December 2004 a tsunami hit the costs of Sri Lanka, killing more than 35,000 people and leaving many more homeless. Since then the country is facing a stable yet slow growth thanks mostly to the toursim sector which is based on the rich natural resources that the country can offer.
